Measure the whole access route
Provide floor-to-floor heights, stair footprint, landing dimensions and access width. For an exterior or industrial staircase, include connection points and the surrounding site layout. A photograph helps explain the location, but it does not replace measured drawings.
Coordinate rails with the stair
List staircase handrails, landing balustrades, guardrails and any decorative infill. Clarify which edges are open and where railings connect to walls, floors or steel supports. Keep the dimensions and fixing details consistent across the stair and railing drawings.
Specify the material and finish
Mild steel, galvanized steel, stainless steel and aluminium are not interchangeable descriptions. Material selection, protective coatings, colour and appearance should match the intended use and the design specification.
Set out package boundaries
Identify who provides design approval, supporting structure, fixing details, fabrication, coating, delivery and installation. Include quantities, required documentation and site access. Clear package boundaries reduce omissions when comparing quotations.
